The Monti della Laga is renowned for its vibrant shepherding community, practicing vertical transhumance towards the Teramo coast. For over a century and a half, between the areas of Cortino and Crognaleto, in Piano Roseto, they have gathered for a fair celebrating their most valuable asset: their livestock. The day begins with a mass officiated by the bishop, followed by workshops on weaving, wood carving, stone sculpture, book presentations, and conferences. For the event, the plateau and the intersection of sheep paths are filled with carousels, street vendors, and musicians who camp alongside the shepherds and the many visitors. Dozens of stalls offer cheeses, cured meats, spirits, and the famous arrosticini, served with fried cheese and tomato bruschetta. Trade associations also showcase the genetic variety of their animals in fenced enclosures, while people dance through the night on the pastures, watching the sunrise over the Adriatic Sea.
