Created in 1995 by the ethnomusicologist Marco Magistrali, in collaboration with Carlo Di Silvestre and at the request of the Altofino Association as a result of a research campaign in Alta Val Fino, Valfino al Canto is an event that brings together musicians from communities where the assessment of one’s own cultural identity is alive. The festival proposes a modality of expression which is close to the culture of oral tradition, where singing and music are, above all, spontaneous practices in the social community, linked to both religious and profane occasions of life and handed down through the generations. The primary purpose of the event is to safeguard the dynamics of production and style of this music, offering an appropriate and “protected” context.
