The Timballo Festival of Aquilano di Tossicia, organized by the Pro Loco of Aquilano, has been an important gastronomic event for almost forty years. It promotes a typical dish of the province of Teramo, which is similar to lasagna but is made with an ancient recipe that uses crêpes called scrippelle (made of milk or water, eggs and flour) in substitution of the pasta sheets to separate the layers of filling. It takes a long time to prepare and it is traditionally made by the women of the village. This dish is served on great public and private occasions, during the Festival and, according to tradition, for wedding lunches in the Teramo countryside.
